After winning the Best Female Artist at the Metro FM Music Awards in Mbombela last Saturday, the much sought after pop star, Makhadzi, real name Ndivhudzannyi Decorate Ralivhona, shocked music lovers when she claimed her record label, Open Mic Productions was exploiting her and that she wants her money. She claimed to have not been paid a single cent. However, it has emerged that her record label transferred numerous amounts into her business account dating back to 19 November 2021.
Zimoja has seen statements of payments of close to R8 million plus another deposit for R300 000 towards her house.
Her record label, Open Mic Records, which is represented by Mphahlele & Masipa Incorporated Attorneys, has taken the matter seriously that they want her to apologise for defaming the record label.
In a letter sent to her lawyers, they have made it clear that Makhadzi must apologise by tomorrow at 12h00 to Open Mic Productions.
The letter states, "Should your client (Makhadzi) fail, refuse and/or neglect to accede to our client's demands by 12h00 on Friday, 12 May 2023, we hold instructions to institute legal proceedings seeking appropriate relief."
It seems as if Makhadzi has decorated the truth by claiming she was not paid by Open Mic Productions while she was paid thousands of Rands on consecutive days. .
January 3 this year was her biggest pay cheque of a whopping R1 million.
Last week Makhadzi reportedly said her relationship with her record label had soured because they were taking advantage of her. "I signed with Open Mic only for three years. In these three years, I dropped four albums. I have never received a cent of my sales. Some of my albums reached platinum and some gold…but I continue to work without complaining." Makhadzi refused to comment citing that it is a legal matter.
