"There is no future for GNU in this country."

Ngizwe Nchunu says there is no future for GNU in this country

The controversial "president" of the Bhinca Nation, Ngizwe Mchunu, has come out guns blazing against the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU). Mchunu, who went to "exile" in the Eastern Cape immediately after the May 29 general and provincial elections, is back home in KwaZulu-Natal.

ENDORSING THE ANC

Despite his close ties to former President Jacob Zuma and his uMkhonto WeSizwe Party (MKP), the country and ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa hosted Mchunu in Durban a few days prior to the elections. On May 25, during the ANC's Siyanqoba Rally held at the FNB Stadium, Mchunu, who was flanked by his followers of the Bhinca nation, endorsed the ANC, much to roars and applause at the stadium. He told his followers to vote for the ANC.

NO FUTURE FOR GNU

The former Ukhozi FM personality told the Podcast Affirmation presenter and journalist, Sizwe Blose, that the GNU will not be able to rule the country. He blamed the leaders of political parties like Patriotic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party leader and the ANC for not consulting their followers after their organisations failed to win the elections outright. "Everyone has betrayed their voters because they never asked for their opinions after performing dismally in the elections. The IFP had vowed never to sleep in the same bed with the ANC before the elections and they did. These politicians are all liars," said an irritated Mchunu.

NOT CAPTURED BY THE ANC

When asked if he was bought with money to support the ANC, he said Ramaphosa doesn't carry cash in a bag to pay people to support him. He told Blose that he felt insulted when people thought he was bought to endorse the ANC just before the elections. He also clarified that he is not a politician and does not belong to any political organisation. Mchunu, who was arrested after the July 2021 looting spree in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces, became Ramaphosa's biggest critic. He also spoke about his relationship with the MK Party founder and leader, Jacob Zuma. He said: "Those who doubt my relationship with Nxamalala (Zuma's clan name) are drunk. Did people eat pap from jail for 14 days like I did when I was arrested? Did they stand trial for three years? I've never raped anyone." Mchunu stood trial at the Randburg Magistrates Court and was found not guilty on charges of inciting public violence. He was discharged in November of last year. Mchunu, who was seen as a scapegoat for the 2021 unrest after Zuma was also jailed for contempt of court, said there are matters he cannot talk about that involve him and Zuma. Both Zuma and Mchunu are from Nkandla, in KwaZulu-Natal. Mchunu said, "There are some things I can never discuss in public and talk about. But Nxamalala knows them," he concluded.
