Controversial former Ukhozi FM radio presenter Ngizwe Mchunu has issued a formal apology for the remarks he made towards Economic Freedom Fighter leader Julius Malema on Saturday. In a video widely shared on social media, Mchunu made what has been labelled tribalistic utterances.
THE COMMENTS
Mchunu said Malema and the EFF will not come to KwaZulu Natal as he was the border gate in the province. In a post on X, EFF spokesperson Sinawo Tambo said the party will be launching their election manifesto on 10 February at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban. He said: "I heard you're also coming to KwaZulu-Natal, I'm the one in charge here, I'm the border gate here,". He went on to say Malema should launch his party manifesto in Limpopo where his ancestors would hear him clearly. " Go to Seshego, not here. The people from here hear from us and you'll find them from us. If you want them you must explain to us why you need them first, speak isiZulu," he said. He added: "You can only load Shangane people and bring them here, no Zulu person will attend his event at Moses Mabhida stadium,"
APOLOGY FOR MAKING REMARKS
Mchunu received backlash on social media with many accusing him of fuelling tribalism in the country. In a post on X, EFF spokesperson Sinawo Tambo said the party will be going to Moses Mabhida Stadium to launch the People's Manifesto as led by Malema. "No aspirant homeland leader, amateur Matanzima/Gatsha that is drunk on tribalism is going to be consulted nor is going to stop us," he wrote. Mchunu has since apologised for his utterances in a formal letter written in Zulu. "As the president of the Bhinca nation, I hereby apologise for making such comments. I am aware that my comments have received a lot of criticism from all corners of the country. I apologise for making such. I'm not a tribalistic person and I respect all the tribes in South Africa. I wish you the best holidays as we are looking forward to 2024 as we will have our elections next year," the letter reads.
