The South African Council for Educators (SACE) is warning newly graduated educators not to fall victim to the bogus SACE registrations which are done by bogus agents.
SACE said that it was aware of the ongoing fraudulent activities regarding the fraudulent registrations, which are done by bogus agents claiming to be SACE agents. SACE spokesperson Risuna Nkuna said the council was worried about the bogus agents and fraudsters who are offering to assist educators with the SACE application processes and charging them an extra fee, promising them a quick turnaround period. "There's a person calling herself Pretty on Facebook claiming to assist applicants with the SACE registration. This person has created a fake Facebook page in the name of SACE. She has even gone to the extent of issuing applicants with fake SACE registration certificates and letters," said Nkuna.
SACE said that they wish to caution those who continue to use the services of agents to apply for SACE registration to refrain from doing so. "Any person caught with a fraudulent SACE certificate will face consequences including council taking legal action against them, blacklisting and being removed from the teaching roll. The council is working very close with relevant authorities to address this matter of self-appointed SACE agents in order to stop these ongoing fraudulent activities. SACE is therefore requesting anyone who is aware of such activities to immediately report to them to SACE offices," Nkuna said.
