The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has advised motorists to delay travel towards the N3 due to severe weather conditions. SAWS says the cold temperatures are expected to persist throughout the week.
AVOID THE N3
In a statement the N3TC said that traffic is being halted at the Tugela Plaza in KwaZulu-Natal and Harrismith South Interchange in the Free State.
"The N3 Toll Concession has closed the N3 at the Van Reenen's Pass because of dangerous conditions including black ice. The snowfall and sudden drop in temperature are causing black ice to form, making the roads at Van Reenens slippery, and there have been reports of trucks losing traction, especially on the uphill sections."
PRIORITISE SAFETY
N3TC said motorists should priorities their safety and postpone travel in the Van Reenen Pass area with immediate effect.
On Thursday, SAWS issued a level 6 warning for disruptive snow, rains and damaging winds as a cold front sweeps over parts of the country.
