A 27-year-old woman has handed herself to the police after the body of her newborn baby was found inside a freezer on Wednesday. It's alleged that the woman placed her baby in the freezer after giving birth and went to have fun at a local tavern.
BODY FROZEN
Free State police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said Odendaalsrus police received a complaint from a resident in Kutloanong who discovered the baby inside the freezer in a shack on his premises. "Upon arrival at the scene, members discovered the body of a newborn baby inside a chest freezer wrapped in a tracksuit top placed inside a plastic carry bag. The body of the baby was already in a frozen state," Thakeng said.
SHE HANDED HERSELF TO THE POLICE
According to Thakeng, the mother was not at her rented shack when the baby was discovered. "Paramedics were summoned to the scene and certify the newborn baby dead. A case of concealment of birth was registered for further investigation," added Thakeng. The mother handed herself over to the police the next day after. The woman trended on social media this week, with many alleging she was spotted at a tavern in the area a few days after giving birth.She was arrested and will appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrates Court on Monday.
