A heartfelt farewell for legendary actor

Actor Sello Motloung was laid to rest

The past few weeks the South African entertainment industry has been marred by a dark cloud with celebrities dying. Internationally acclaimed actor

Sello Motloung collapsed at his home on Sunday and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

A HARD WORKER WHO HATED CELEBRITY STATUS

His funeral service, held in Kempton Park, was attended by his industry colleagues

The 54-year-old actor was described as a hard worker. Some mourners described him as a "Gentle Giant", who was production-friendly and an actor who was down to earth.

His fellow screen actor and colleague Nthathi Moshesh, was the last actress to be with him and she said he was fine when they were together last Friday.

She said, "His mantra was that you must give yourself flowers and not wait for the world the world to give you flowers."

THE GREATEST HUMAN

His only biological son read out a speech he wrote for his father titled The Greatest Human I Will Ever Know.

He said his father taught his so much about humanity. His said what he remembers about his dad is his kind nature.

"He always smiled with anyone - whether it was a store cashier or one of his brothers."

He said the biggest thing he will miss about his dad is his presence and the fact that he was always there for him since birth.

"Losing him just reminded me of how much of a boy I am who still need his father to hold my hand. His hand to guide me through this path. I ask myself how will I move forward when I have to go buy my first house, car, get married and the birth of my first child. That won't happen."

He said by blood, he was his father's only child but through their journey he met people who changed their lives.

"You gave me another mother and two brothers. I still have your brother and my cousins to hold on to. I want you to rest easy and know that I am in good hands," he said.

MOVING TRIBUTE

His stepsons shared a heartfelt message about their father. One of them said his parents came back a night vigil at church.

He said his mom was tired and went to bed but he said he randomly gave his father a hug and told him that he loved him.

"He told me that he loved me too and no matter what we have been through, he said was proud of me. What really hit me is that I never thought that would be his last words to me," he added

He said his father will always be a king, uncle, a friend and a grandfather. He said Motloung hated the term celebrity.

"He wanted to be remembered as someone who put a smile on everyone's faces. He always made someone feel good and always had solutions," he said.

His other stepson said he didn't expect his father to die so soon.

He said his father was kind, humble, supportive, sweet and he never missed an important moment in his life.

"He left us too soon but his legacy will live forever. Our king, we are shattered," he added.
