The police in KwaZulu Natal have launched a man hunt for a man who is believed to have been involved in the killing of three family members in Umntilombo area in Eshowe, KwaZulu Natal last year. Three family members of the Mkhize family were ambushed by gunmen at their home. Three other family members were injured in the attack.
ATTACKED BY ARMED MEN
On 12 April 2023, two gunmen stormed into the Mkhize family homestead and demanded to see one of the family members. It is alleged the men demanded that a family member Nduduzo Mkhize (26) give them his gun and when he told them he didn't have a gun, they started shooting.
He ran back to the house where the other family members were and was shot dead. The family started screaming and two family members Nokuphiwa (32) and Muzikayise (14) were fatally wounded. The three family members who survived the shooting are in hiding. KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that one suspect was arrested soon after the murders and that he has appeared in court a few times. "A 23-year-old Thuthuka Mthethwa was arrested the day after the murders and was denied bail in court. His case is set for trial from 18 to 28 March 2024 before the Mtunzini High Court," Netshiunda said.
MANHUNT FOR THE SECOND SUSPECT
Netshiunda said the police strongly believe Sicelo Dambayi Sikhakhane (33) is the second suspect and request anyone who may know his whereabout to assist with more information. "He is about 1,7 meter tall, dark in complexion and well built. Sikhakhane is believed to be hiding in one of the hostels in Durban. His warrant of arrest was issued by the court," he said.
