The police in Lebowakgomo have arrested a man for allegedly raping a pregnant woman in Leshikishiki village in Limpopo. It's alleged that the man who is from the same village as the victim stormed into the woman's house and demanded that he accompany him to his RDP house on Saturday around 11 pm.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said according to information, the 21-year-old victim was sleeping when she heard a knock and her grandmother told her to answer the door. "She was surprised to see the man known to her already in the house. The 39-year-old suspect threatened the victim and forced her to accompany him to his RDP house around the village and on arrival, he raped her. After the ordeal, the victim immediately reported the matter to the police," Ledwaba said, adding that the suspect was immediately arrested at his home in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the Lebowakgomo police for a quick response which led to the arrest of the suspect "Victims of rape or any sexual offence are encouraged to report these cases without a shame so that those rapists can be removed from the community," said General Hadebe. The suspect will appear before Polokwane Magistrates' Court today on a charge of rape.
