Man arrested after stabbing roommate over mealie meal

Police in Musina, Limpopo, have arrested a 32-year-old man accused of murdering his roommate over mealie meal. SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the 30-year-old deceased was stabbed with a sharp instrument on his upper body on Saturday.

ROOMMATES

Ledwaba said information at the police's disposal suggests that the two men shared a rented room and had a fall out after the deceased gave someone a portion of their mealie meal without the suspects' consent. "Emergency medical services were called to the scene and the victim was declared dead. Police said the slain man's identity was withheld for the purpose of the ongoing investigations. Police opened a case of murder and the suspect, who is a foreign national, was arrested after he handed himself to the police." Ledwaba said, adding that the alleged killer made his first appearance before Musina Magistrates Court and the case was postponed to tomorrow for a formal bail application.

MORE BLOODSHED

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man was arrested for murder that occurred at Midoroni village outside Makhado on Sunday, around 8am. "According to information, the victim and the suspect got involved in a heated argument where the suspect produced a sharp instrument and stabbed the victim on the upper body. Police were summoned to the scene together with emergency medical services. Tragically, they found the victim with stab wounds and had already succumbed to the injuries at the scene, "said Ledwaba. He added that the victim's identity will be released as the investigation continues. "Police opened a case of murder for further investigations and the suspect appeared before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrates Court on Tuesday. The matter was postponed for formal bail application."
