The tension between Malaika singer Tshedi Mholo and her former bandmate Bongani Nchang seems to be far from over since they went their separate ways in 2021.
NO LONGER TOGETHER
Tshedi who officially announced that she had left the group does not wish to have any association with the group and claimed that her former bandmate, Bongani, was still using her name to secure bookings.
Yesterday Tshedi took to social media to share a cease and desist letter from his legal team, warning her to stop performing old Malaika songs. "For the past five years you have been performing songs (music) belonging to the band, Malaika, without the knowledge or permission of our client, who together with yourself are the remaining members of the band, after the third member MR Jabu Ndaba passed on in 2008,' the letter reads.
REPLACED
Tshedi said despite her leaving the band in 2021, her name was still used for bookings by Bongani, showing a poster with her name on it. Malaika was formed in 2003 by Bongani, Tshedi and Jabulani Ndaba who died in 2008 after a long battle with TB. Since 2021, Bongani and Tshedi have not been on speaking terms due to alleged "toxicity' in the band. Tshedi also said, there was never an agreement for her to be replaced in the band. She claimed to have been bullied verbally, financially, and psychologically by Bongani since leaving the group and replaced by Tsoakae Molipa. Bongani could not be reached at the time of publishing.
