The party was formed less than two months ago but politics are already at play. The Umkhonto Wesizwe Youth League (MKYL) has suspended two of its members who wanted to form a student wing of the party. The news of their suspension was announced by MKYL interim Secretary-General, Minenhle Cibane, yesterday.
The suspended members are Mnqobi Msezane and Thamsanqa Khuzwayo. "The MKYL acts firmly and summarily suspends the membership of the two MKYL members for KwaZulu Natal province. The MKYL wishes to inform its structures and the people of KZN that it has summarily suspended the membership of two members who participated in a circus purporting to form a paralleled structure which is not recognised by the MKLY and MK Party," Cibane said in the statement. He reiterated to all their members that the MKYL is the only legitimate structure that will contest the SRC elections in tertiary institutions.
Cibane further said that the MKYL does not recognise the MK Student Movement. "The suspended members are not allowed to convene or attend meetings of the MKYL, they are not allowed to call or convene a meeting with any MKYL structure or any other MKSM structures. They are prohibited from attending any MKYL and they are prohibited from using the image of President Jacob Zuma to promote Umkhonto Student Movement. The two mentioned members Msezane and Khuzwayo are given 48 hours to respond to the office of the MKYL secretary-general in writing and state why they must not be expelled. Failure to adhere to the conditions of the terms of their suspension will lead to their immediate expulsion," the statement said.
