Less than a month after being reinstated as the uMkhonto weSizwe Party secretary-general, Arthur Zwane has been expelled from the party by its leader, Jacob Zuma. The announcement was made by Zuma in a statement last night, and the expulsion is effective immediately.
EXPELLED FOR MISLEADING THE PARTY
Zuma said that he was expelling Zwane from the MK Party for misleading the party. "I refer to the letter I wrote to you on 28 July 2024 in which I, Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, as President of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, expressed my decision to you to relieve from the position of Secretary General of the Party. I, therefore, reconfirm my earlier decision to you and thus expect to cooperate fully with my decision and desist from the position of secretary-general of the party. Furthermore, owing to your conduct in misleading the party, I reserve the right to expel you from the party with immediate effect," he said in a statement.
SECOND TIME UNLUCKY
Earlier last month, Zwane resigned from his position, three weeks after he was appointed the party's secretary-general. In his resignation letter shared on social media on July 2, 2024, Zwane said he had realised the volume of work in the secretariat office was beyond his limits and would distract him from his business interests. After Zwane's resignation, the party did not waste time and appointed Dr. Sifiso Maseko as its new secretary-general, a post he only held for less than a week after Zuma rejected Zwane's resignation. Zwane was reinstated as the secretary-general once again. Zwane is the third secretary-general to vacate the post since January. The party's initial secretary-general, Thanduxolo "Gorbachev" Dyodo, was expelled from the party in April, along with co-founder Jabulani Khumalo and four other members. Dyodo was succeeded by Sihle Ngubane, who left the role after the elections to become an MP, leading to Zwane assuming the position. he said in a statement.
