Longwe Twala back on the streets

A warrant of arrest has been issued for Longwe

A warrant of arrest has been issued for Longwe Twala, the son of legendary musician and producer Sello "Chicco" Twala. The former child star failed to appear at the Randburg Magistrate's Court this morning. Longwe is facing charges of theft and stolen property after he stole Chicco?s expensive music equipment while the legendary producer was in the US on business in August.

HE WAS A NO SHOW

It also emerged in court that Longwe stole his sister's cellphone The court had released Longwe on free bail under his aunt's supervision and that he had to report at the Diepkloof Police Station at least once a week.

But Longwe disappeared with his sister's cellphone on Thursday afternoon - on the eve of his court appearance. A source said the aunt, who is Chicco's sister, is also going to open a case of theft against Longwe. The source said Longwe did not sleep at home on Thursday evening, and was also a no-show at the Randburg Magistrate's Court this morning.

IN AND OUT OF REHAB

Longwe has been struggling to shrug off a drug addiction which started about 20 years ago. Over the years, his family has taken him to over 30 rehabilitation centre but nothing seems to improve. When Chicco found that he had stolen at his Fourways home while he was overseas, he opened a case against Longwe Twala and his younger brother, Sello Twala. But the charges against Longwe's brother were dropped because of lack of evidence. Chicco was vocal against Longwe and told the authorities not to grant him bail. Called for comment, Chicco said, "Let the law take its course. I urge his sister to go and open a case of theft as well. This is not on.This is too much."
