Legendary Mbhaqanga group Soul Brothers will celebrate Heritage Month with a music festival. The group which became a household name in the 1970's with the late prominent members David Masondo who was the lead singer and guitarist Moses Ngwenya will host their annual music festival next weekend
The Soul Brothers Annual Heritage Music Festival will be held at Bassline in Newtown, Johannesburg on 16 September. According to the group, the festival is aimed to primarily instill attributes of humanity, such as love, kindness, compassion, and tolerance towards one another. Soul Brothers's manager Sidney Malulekae said that the group is advocating on matters relating to diverse cultures, accepting all races and genders, reconciliation, social cohesion and rainbow nation-building. "It is therefore not a coincidence, that the timing for hosting the Annual Heritage Music celebration takes place during Heritage Month.
Maluleke added that the group have involved artists from other cultures as part of celebrations, showing that they are bracing everyone. "We are delighted that the group is also headlining it and their fans will get to taste some of their new offerings," he said. Maluleke said that other performing artists that have been selected to also address issues pertaining to diversity, genre, and age are Big Zulu, Lwah Ndlunkulu, Phuzekhemisi, Dr. Joe Shirimani, Siphamandla Masondo, Thokozani Hadebe, Impumelelo, Mhan Flo and Felikhono.
