Rise Teanet, Richie and C Boy, are raging with anger! They feel taken advantage of by Tebza De DJ. The duo like their late icon father ,Limpopo Disco icon Peta Teanet, have also earned their keep as rising stars. The brothers tell ZiMoja that Tebza De DJ's latest song, featuring DJ Nomza The King titled Ka Valungu, which has gone viral on social media platforms, was sampled from their father's song Shimanga and the DJ, whose real name is Tebogo Sambo, did not get clearance rights.

AN INFRINGEMENT

The Amapiano song Ka Valungu by Tebza De DJ has gone viral on Tik Tok and removed Tyler ICU's international hit Mnike from the number one spot. But Peta Teanat's kids feel his father's hard work is being stolen. The eldest son and also a musician, Richie, says that people are taking advantage of their late dad's hard work and they must protect his legacy. "People can't do as they please," he says. "The song is beautiful, we love it, we approve and support it. We would gladly continue to support it but he needs to do the right thing," Richie says. "If this was Beyonce or any other international star, he wouldn't just re-do the song and not get clearance or even a blessing from the family or label. This sort of thing needs to stop. We also appreciate him celebrating our father's great work, but he needs to do the right thing. Music is a passion but also a business and his family needs to live off his work." Richie says he spoke to all his siblings to find out if anyone had communicated with the family. He adds that the vocals of the song are his mother's, Vuyelwa Mapitlula, "who also deserves to be credited," he says.

LEGAL ROUTE

Tebza says he called Tebza the DJ to find out what is happening. "He seemed to not have time to speak. He said he would get back to me but hasn't as yet. As it stands, it seems as though they are trying to fix things behind our backs with one of the major labels that our dad was working with at the time. We are not fighting, but If they continue doing this in a dodgy manner, we will take legal action and things will get ugly." When called for comment, Tebza De DJ dropped the phone upon hearing about the matter. But he later responded and said, "No comment at the moment. Maybe later. I'm not in a good place."

A LEGEND

Peta Teanet died in July 1996 in Acornhoeak after being shot by a policeman following an argument. His debut album, Maxaka (We are Relatives) was recorded in 1988 and greatly influenced by Paul Ndlovu. He is the third born of his late mom, Emma Teanet who was also a musician. He performed along, with Limpopo greats such as Penny Penny who was his friend, his younger brother Foster Teanet, Joe Shirimane and many more. His sons have since followed his legacy and formed the duo, Rise Teanet
