Home Affairs confirms the department will be operating on election day

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has announced that all Home Affairs offices countrywide will be open on election day to help those who might need temporary IDs for voting purposes.


TEMPORARY ID ACCEPTABLE 


Motsoaledi assured the public that the temporary certificate will be accepted by the IEC for voting on May 29th. "On the election day, all Home Affairs offices will open as long as voting stations are open. Any person who might have a mishap with their ID will have a right to go to any Home Affairs office to collect a temporary identification certificate." Motsoaledi said.


SERVICES


Deputy Minister Minister, Njabulo Nzuza said services to be offered include application and collection of IDs and applications for temporary IDs which cost R70 and are issued on the spot. With these documents, eligible voters will be able to vote for the 2024 national and provincial elections. "In addition, clients can now book collection appointments before visiting offices, using the branch appointment booking system which is available on the DHA website. Alternatively, clients can simply visit our offices without making a booking. We want to assist those who need an ID to participate in the voter registration an opportunity to come and collect their documents. We particularly encourage young people to come to our offices from Friday afternoon and over the weekend to come and apply or collect their documents," said Nzuza. He encouraged those who have applied for identification documents and have been waiting for three weeks or more, to seize this opportunity by visiting their Home Affairs office to collect these critical documents.
