Zandie Khumalo accused of making three contradictory statements on Senzo Meyiwa’s murder

Zandie Khumalo will continue giving testimony in court today

Singer Zandie Khumalo took to the witness stand again in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial yesterday at the High Court in Pretoria. She faces cross-examination from the defence of the five accused in the murder of the Bafana Bafana football goalkeeper. Advocate Zithulele Nxumalo poked holes in three different statements that Zandie made, the day after the incident, the second in November 2014 and the last one she gave in February 2018.

NO INTRUDERS

Nxumalo told Zandie that there were no intruders and that Meyiwa was not killed in a robbery. "There were no intruders. The deceased was shot by one of the people in the house," Nxumalo said. He told Zandie that in her first and second statements, she made no mention of the features of the first intruder. "In one of the statements, you were in the bathroom and found Senzo lying on the kitchen floor bleeding. In the other statement, you said you saw Senzo leaning on the wall next to the couch and TV stand. Which one is it?" he asked. In response to Nxumalo’s allegations, Zandie said: "All statements and key points I made is that people came in, we fought them, Longwe went out. I came to court and repeated the same thing. I dispute what you are saying. What you are saying doesn’t exist. You can put it to me 50 times if that makes you sleep well at night, but there were two intruders that came into the house," she said. She added that she gave all the information to the police and had no control over what they chose to or not to record.

TENSION IN COURT

Nxumalo and Zandie had an unpleasant exchange with each other to the point where the witness told the advocate that, "Please watch your tone when you speak to me. I am not your wife, I am someone else’s wife, I don’t like it when you talk to me like that," Zandie said. Nxumalo replied sharply: "Well, me too. If you raise your voice I will do the same. So, it’s up to you. You are here to assist the court," Nxumalo told Zandie. "Yes, I am here to assist the court, but you are here to block it," she replied. Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are standing trial for the murder of Senzo. The trial continues today.
