The National Department of Health has urged cooks who prepare food at funerals to practice good hygiene in order to prevent the spread of cholera. So far the death toll has risen to 43 with Gauteng recording 35 fatalities.
HYGIENE AT FUNERALS
Spokesperson Foster Mohale appealed to the public to maintain strict compliance with personal hygiene. "Hygiene is of utmost importance, especially during food preparation for large numbers, of people. For example at funerals or parties as we have discovered that the majority of positive cases and deaths are linked to funeral attendance."
A DECLINE IN INFECTIONS
Mohale said there has been a decline in the total number of cholera infections. "Gauteng province accounts for most of the cases at 89% with 176 reported from three districts. "Free State Province accounts for 6% with 11 of the cases, reported from one Fezile Dabi District, North-West has recorded 5 cases, Limpopo 4 cases and one case in Mpumalanga," said Mohale.
