The police have made another breakthrough in the Soshanguve New Year's Day murders with the arrest of four additional suspects during an intelligence driven operation by the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation teams.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Thandi Mbambo said the suspects, three men and a woman were arrested on Saturday night (6 January ) in various areas around Pretoria. "This brings the total number of detained suspects to six. Three firearms, an AK 47 and two pistols were confiscated, during the arrests."

Mbambo said the suspects will appear at the Soshanguve Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearm. The two previously arrested suspects, Sipho Kgomo and Tshepo Mosemeni made their first appearance at the Soshanguve Magistrates Court on the 4th of January and their matter was postponed to 12 January for formal bail application. Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said shortly after midnight, suspects travelling in two cars fired at a group of people who were sitting inside a car outside the 14-year-old victim's home. The owner of the car, a 29-year-old police officer attached to K9 unit at the OR Tambo International Airport was also killed. "The circumstances that led to the shooting are unknown at this stage and two suspects have been arrested. The police request anyone who may have information that can assist with the investigation to contact the Crime Stop Line."
