It has been a tough year for the gospel group Joyous Celebration who were dropped by their sponsor MTN. Despite failing to secure a sponsorship for this year’s tour, the choir has started rolling out its tour and will have a live show in Johannesburg this weekend.
BEEN A TOUGH JOURNEY
The group that is known for discovering great singers such as Ntokozo Mbambo, Swazi Dlamini, and others will be back on stage for the first time in Johannesburg this year. A source close to the situation says it was a hard journey since the Covid-19 lockdown but the management managed to raise funds because their fans had been begging. The source says they had to make a plan even if it is just for one day. "Joyous Celebration has a huge following and most of their fans are loyal, they have been with the group since its inception, they can’t just forget about the group,†says the source. The Joburg comeback live show is taking place on 5 August 2023 at Emperors Palace after a successful launch at the Durban ICC over the Easter weekend as part of the Durban Easter Megafest. According to their organisers the gospel music powerhouse will present its 27th album titled Hope and Victory at a One-Night-Only extravaganza. " We can confirm that we are back in Joburg this year with the first leg of the tour at the Emperor’s Palace this coming Saturday,†says one of the organisers, Helga Klizanie.
FOUNDER LINDELANI SAYS IT IS BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
Founding member Dr Lindelani Mkhize said: "It is said that delay is not denial. True to this adage, we know that our music lovers have been expecting our tour to resume, and here we are,†he said. He adds that the evening will be full of joy with songs of praise and worship. "A true treat from the two albums that have been carefully composed to touch each and every person who listens to the music,†he concluded.
