IT WAS TOO LATE

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Phologo was among a group of children playing when she ate a marula fruit.

"Regrettably, the fruit became lodged in her throat and caused her to choke. Despite being rushed to Witpoort Hospital for medical attention, doctors declared her dead upon arrival," he said.

Ledwaba said the police have initiated an investigation into this tragic incident and opened an inquest case.

BE CAUTIOUS

Ledwaba urged parents and guardians to exercise caution and vigilance at all times when it comes to the safety of their children.

"Parents should be vigilant and aware of their children?s whereabouts at all times. Additionally, it is crucial that young children are not left unattended while consuming these fruits, as they can present a potential choking hazard. The ongoing police investigation remains in progress."
