Former deputy minister defends Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula

Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has the support of former deputy minister Mduduzi Manana

ANC National Executive Committee member, Mduduzi Manana has come out in support of corruption charged Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

The former National Assembly Speaker, Mapisa-Nqakula, appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate?s Court on charges of corruption and money laundering on yesterday

The Investigating Directorate (ID) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) brought the 12 charges of corruption and one of money laundering against Mapisa-Nqakula following investigations into allegations that during her tenure as the Minister of Defence, in the period between 2016 and 2019, she allegedly solicited an amount of approximately R4,5 million, of which R2,1 million was received in cash.

During her performance in court, Mapisa-Nqakula cut a lonely figure - with no support from her organisation, the ANC, it?s tripartite alliance, SA Communist Party and Cosatu and the ANC Women?s League members.

Mduduzi Manana has admitted to being in full support of corruption accused Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula

APPEARING IN COURT

The high profile politician who was in court to support her, was previous Speaker, Baleka Mbete. In a Facebook post, former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Member of Parliament, Manana said Mapisa Nqakula will remain a mother to him.

He wrote: "Umzali uyohlezi engumzali. (A parent will always be a mother) The love that one has for a parent cannot change just because an unpleasant wind is blowing towards her direction at that particular moment. In the end, the court will make a determination on her fate and even then, my love for her as a mother would have not diminished. If you dare comment negatively, without comprehending the context of my message, I will block you. Angibhedelwa ke mina.(You don?t come to me and speak out of turn)"

HE HAS THREATENED TO BLOCK NEGATIVE COMMENTS

After making it clear that those who comment negatively will be blocked, the comment section was full of praise for Mapisa-Nqakula.

Former Minister of Communications, Azwihangwisi Faith Muthambi commented and added hugs emojis: "So profound. She deserves all our love and support."Valdo Lenyora was not happy that some comrades in the ANC who served wlth her, were not supporting Mapisa-Nqakula.

Lenyora wrote, "You are the voice of the voiceless Cde Mduduzi C. Manana. This is very admirable of you. Comrades are and were quiet, all because they are looking at their pay check and are afraid of association."

Manana should know all about comrades who turn their backs as soon as they are in trouble. He was convicted of assault after a video of him surfaced in 2017 being involved in altercation with three women. Manana pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to 12 months? imprisonment or a fine of R100?000. Just like Mapisa-Nqakula who resigned from her position as Speaker of Parliament this week, Manana also resigned from his position as second-in-command in the higher education ministry.

Meanwhile, Mapisa-Nqakula is out on R50 000 bail. She will appear again in court on June 4 where the prosecution team said the name of the second accused will be revealed.
