Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyabonga Zulu, along with his teammate Nhlanhla Masina, has tragically lost their lives. The two football players were en route with their Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League team, Phezulu FC, when they were involved in a fatal car accident.
THE FATAL ACCIDENT
According to reports, Phezulu FC had just played FC Sivutsa at Driekoppies Stadium in Mpumalanga when the accident happened. Zulu joined Phezulu FC in August 2024, where he was reviving his football career. The 31-year-old defender had won the Absa Premiership title during his time at Sundowns. He was fired by the Brazilians in 2018 after he went AWOL and missed his disciplinary hearing. He joined Sundowns after leaving the now-defunct Platinum Stars. The experienced defender also played for clubs such as Blackburn Rovers FC, Sivutsa Stars, United FC, Chippa United, Black Leopards and All Stars.
TROUBLES WITH BABY MAMA
Zulu's football career took a nose-dive when he had personal problems with his baby mama, Gogo Maweni. Maweni even took the star to the Moja Love show No Excuse Pay Papgeld camera crew, who visited the club to confront him only to be told by the club spokesperson that he was fired from the team for ill-discipline. In 2022, during an interview on Podcast and Chill, Gogo Maweni shocked many when she admitted to having cast a spell on Zulu to teach him a lesson. She told the podcast team that she did that after she discovered that he cheated on her with multiple women even when she had been helping him financially. "I have to take credit for that though. I don't know how to answer you guys; I'm trying to be a good girl. Honestly, I bewitched him. Well, let's not say I bewitched him. It's a thing of 'you think you know better when I've helped you.' When you're now on that pedestal, you think you know. You cannot play for a weak team, and I'm busy taking care of you," she said during the interview. She added then that at the time, she had helped him get a good contract when she was pregnant, and they had moved in together.
