Mandla Lamba, the convicted fraudster and self-styled millionaire, is back to his old ways of defrauding unsuspecting victims. Lamba is now a wanted man on the run after allegedly defrauding an unsuspecting victim of R200,000 after promising him scooters.
A WANTED MAN
Lamba is currently wanted by the Gauteng police. Spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said Lamba allegedly posted a false advertisement on Facebook for scooters, leading a complainant to deposit R200,000. "The Gauteng police are seeking assistance in locating Doctor Enoch Mandla Lamba, a 39-year-old man, who committed fraud in Midrand, Johannesburg District, in May 2023," Sibeko said. The police are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Mthombeni, at (011) 309-6000, or Lieutenant Colonel Mokovhi on 061 129 9371.
CONVICTED FRAUDSTER
In 2011, after being arrested at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, Lamba faced 15 charges. These were for fraud and theft, as well as for culpable homicide relating to a 2007 car accident in which two people died. He served 10 years in jail in 2011 after being found guilty. Lamba is known for the wild allegations he made around 2010 when he said he became a billionaire at the age of 25 from interests in gold, diamonds, and mining. He allegedly approached several taxi owners and promised to help them buy new taxis provided they each deposited R40,000 into his bank account.
DATING POPULAR ACTRESS
After his release from prison, Lamba laid low for a bit and made his return to the limelight by attempting to sell shares using celebrities Somizi Mhlongo and the late Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule through his company, Agilitee SA, the same company he used to allegedly defraud his latest victim. In May, Muvhango actress Sibongukuhle Nkosi confirmed to ZiMoja that she was dating the convicted fraudster. At the time, she said, "It is what it is. I guess I can't hide it anymore." She also said that they started seeing each other around April and that he was treating her right. "I have known him for about a year. We met in the same social circles, became friends at first, and now we are here," Sibongokuhle said.
