Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for two suspects following a shooting in which a 30-year-old security guard was shot dead while on duty at the Musina Emergency Medical Services (EMS) premises in Limpopo.

KILLED ON DUTY

Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said on Wednesday around 3 am police were called in after the shooting incident, and upon their arrival, they were pointed to the lifeless body of the guard, identified as Lutendo Mbedzi from Tshakhuma. "The members of the EMS were summoned to the scene for medical assistance but the victim was certified dead on their arrival," said Ledwaba,explaining that the deceased and his colleague, a 36-year-old woman, were patrolling the premises when they noticed two unknown men suddenly entering the gate. "One suspect was in possession of a firearm, and they started demanding firearms from the deceased, who was sitting outside the guard room, while his female colleague was seated inside at the passage," said Ledwaba.

HE COOPERATED WITH THEM

Ledwaba said that the deceased cooperated and told them that the firearms were stored in a safe situated in the main building, and they took him to the building without noticing his female colleague who was hiding. "After a few minutes, the female guard who was hiding suddenly heard her co-worker screaming for help and she heard a gunshot. Following the gunshot sound, the assailants fled the scene on foot. They took the cellphone of the murdered guard," he said, adding that the surviving security guard later came back to the main building, accompanied by people she asked for help. "A massive manhunt for the two male suspects has been activated. Police investigations are continuing.
