Zanele Mbokazi's death divides family

Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule's husband Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule is allegedly sidelined by her family

Just over a month since the passing of radio personality Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, there is already drama in the family. According to highly placed sources, the family allegedly sidelines Mbokazi's widower, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule.

NO SUPPORT

The source said that Nkambule is trying to continue his late wife's legacy, but some family members are not entirely impressed and want him out. Early this month, Nkambule, Crown Gospel Awards board member Sthembiso Mtshali, creative director Siyanda Mwandla and project manager Njabulo Shangase held a press conference confirming that the awards will continue even in her absence. At the time, he said: "It's an unfamiliar turf to be here in the absence of Zanele. But we are here to celebrate her legacy, keep her memory alive, and celebrate her achievements." But the source told ZiMoja that the bishop is not getting the support he needs from some of his in-laws. "Some family members are questioning why he is still around because Zanele is no more; they even suggested that he go back to his country of birth, eSwatini. It's heartbreaking that people will say things like that when he has built a life here," the source added.

HE WANTS TO KEEP HIS WIFE'S LEGACY ALIVE

According to the source, although some family members want Nkambule out, he is still the head of the house and his step children respects him. "Other family members will always have issues, especially when it comes to death and money. The bishop loved his wife. I guess every family has its own drama," the source added. The source continued to say that all the bishop wants is to ensure his wife's legacy doesn't perish. Another source says the family is currently trying to create a united front to secure more sponsorship for the upcoming Crown Gospel Awards scheduled for November 17, including the other projects she was working on. Mbokazi spokesperson Nonjabulo Mdluli said she forwarded our questions to Nkambule for advice. "If it were up to me, I wouldn't even be responding because I honestly don't care what people think or say," Mdluli said. She promised to follow up with the bishop and give a comment but had not done so at the time of publication.
