The Durban University of Techonology (DUT) in Durban in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) has lost another student under tragic circumstances. Last week another student was found at sea after she fought with bouncers during a drinking spree with friends. The latest incident saw Nathi Mkhize being stabbed and killed while drinking with other fellow students on Saturday night in Umbilo in Durban.
Nathi from Jolivet ,,in the far south of KZN, was allegedly stabbed when he tried to intervene in a fight that broke out between his friends.
"Nathi was not someone who liked it when people fought. On Saturday while we were still drinking and dancing, a fight ensued between his friends and he rushed to separate them and to have the matter resolved but this other guy stabbed Nathi," said a fellow student who wished not to be named.
The student further told ZiMoja that everyone was scared of speaking out with regards to the killing. "The cops are still hoping that someone from his friends will finally talk. They don't want to assist the cops with more information on this matter. I wish Nathi can fight for himself from the grave," he said.
Mkhize was doing a diploma in PR and Communications studies. KZN SAPS spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, confirmed the incident and said,
"Umbilo Police are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a man was allegedly stabbed and killed by an unknown suspect on 13 May . Reports indicate that the victim was with his friends before he was stabbed."
