DJ Sbu is making a comeback to radio after nearly a ten-year break. DJ Sbu, who was fired by the SABC almost a decade ago when he was a presenter at Metro FM, has gone back to the public broadcaster.
HE WILL HOST THE BREAKFAST SHOW
Radio 200 announced the news yesterday in a statement with the station's new changes. DJ Sbu will be hosting the breakfast show between 6-9am weekdays. He replaces Glen Lewis who has quit the station to join Kaya FM. Sbu was shown the door by the public broadcaster in 2015 after he advertised his energy drink during the Metro FM Awards without consent. He then went to work at online Massiv Radio, which he left in 2021. DJ Sbu, who started his radio career at the youth station, YFM, is excited that he will be hosting the breakfast show. He also paid tribute to Glen Lewis and said he followed his deejaying and music career when he was still a student at tertiary level. He said, "Glen Lewis thank you for paving the way, opening the doors and being a solid role model for us for two decades. We appreciate you. We love you. We respect you. We celebrate you. These are going to be very big shoes to fill. But with the grace of God and your blessing, I know the team will hold it down well and make you proud." he said.
HE WANTS TO GET AMA2000 TO FOLLOW THE STATION
DJ Sbu is convinced that he will still get the younger generation known as Ama2000 to follow and support him on Radio 2000. He wrote on a social media post: "Thank you to all who've held me down over the years. I am back on mainstream morning radio. I missed you guys. Ma 2k ngiyazi senikhulile, ngisizwile iskhalo senu. (MA 2k I known you've grown up, I heard your outcry). It looks like that Friends Like These conversation will now reach the right ears since I'm back in the building." He also shared a picture of himself holding his contract he had just signed this week with the SABC this week. The station also announced in a statement that that award-winning producer, artist, businessman, DJ Cleo, real name Tlou Cleopas Monyepao aka 'will be joining the station as a presenter for their new dance show Eskhaleni Party on Fridays between 10pm and midnight with the rest of weekday daytime lineup remaining unchanged. Business manager Anthony Soglo said, 'Radio 2000 is blessed to have a team of passionate professional broadcasters and talent who understand the vision of being a listener centric station targeting our iYouth Endala listeners. We welcome our new talent and know that they fit our presenter profile who understand our target audience and will assist in further creating an environment for our commercial stakeholders to thrive'.
