A car accident that landed the groom in hospital days before his wedding could not stop the couple from tying the knot on the date they had set. On their wedding date, set months earlier, Godfrey Maboi (49) who is bedridden and Paulinah Mogale (44) exchanged vows in a private ceremony within the walls of Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) on Sunday evening. The hospital allowed a few family members, the pastor and the bride and groom to carry on with the wedding ceremony in the ward.

Maboi was admitted to the hospital after he had a car accident on 02 December 2023, just eight days before his wedding day. This threatened to prolong the couple's long-awaited wedding day. In a social media post by the hospital, this did not deter their steadfast love and commitment triumphed as they finally tied the knot on Sunday in the hospital ward, where the groom is currently admitted. The couple who have been together for a good 28 years and both come from Daveyton, got engaged in December 2022.
When the couple shared their wedding plans with the staff at the hospital, the management allowed them to get married on their premises. The bride and groom exchanged their vows on Sunday evening, surrounded by the love and support of the FERH staff and their families who joined virtually through video calls. MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko congratulated the newlywed couple and wished them well in their marriage saying that their love story is an inspiration to many and that irrespective of the obstacles one encounters in life ,there is always a way. "This gesture by Far East Rand Hospital not only provided solace and joy to Godfrey and Paulinah but also showcased the dedication of the hospital staff in fostering an environment of compassion," she said.
