A Mozambican couple has been arrested and charged with the murder of their eight-year-old daughter. The couple who stayed in Hlogotlou in Sekhukhune District in Limpopo, allegedly abused the man's daughter until she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

ABUSIVE HOME

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said it's alleged that the deceased was staying with her stepmother (31) and her biological father (35) who both physically abused her. Ledwaba said the community members around the area of the couple's household were aware that the victim was being physically abused by her parents but by the time they tried to intervene, it was too late.

INTERVENTION 

"It is reported that on Wednesday, 24 May 2023 a neighbour approached the family following suspicions of a serious incident that occurred to the victim, and through intelligence investigation, it was found that the victim was seriously injured from being physically assaulted. Members of the community sought medical assistance whereby the victim was rushed by an ambulance to the nearest hospital but unfortunately, later succumbed to her injuries," he said. The police are investigating a case of murder with two counts of the contravention of immigration act against the couple. The suspects are due to appear before Nebo Magistrate's Court tomorrow. Police investigations are continuing.
