Cops in a search of killers of Kaizer Chiefs player

Luke Fleurs was killed in a hijacking

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has appointed a team of seasoned detectives to search for the killers of Kaizer Chiefs Luke Fleurs who was shot dead in Roodepoort at approximately 8:30pm. Fleurs, who joined Chiefs from SuperSport United in October last year, died after a botched hijacking.


YOUNG LIFE CUT SHOT 


Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said Fleurs had pulled up in his red Golf 8 at a service station and waited to be served. "The victim, who was driving a red VW Golf 8 GTI, drove into the petrol station in 14th Avenue, corner Hendrik Potgieter. While waiting to be served by the petrol attendant where he was confronted by two armed males who came driving a white BMW 1 Series. "The suspects pointed him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once on the upper body. One suspect drove off with the victim's car followed by his accomplice," said Masondo. He added: "The victim was taken to the nearest medical care centre where he was certified dead-on arrival."


MURDER CASE HAS BEEN OPENED 


Police have opened a case of murder and car hijacking and no arrests have been made yet. The Cape Town-born central defender died after turning 24 on 1 March. When Molefi Ntseki joined Chiefs last year, he recommended that Fleurs be signed by Amakhosi after he became a free agent from Matsatsantsa. Ntseki also coached Fleurs at the national under-17 level. Fluers signed a two-year contract with the Glamour Boys but he didn't play any official match until Ntseki was fired by the club. Fleurs played 70 times for SuperSport United before joining Chiefs. He previously played for the first division outfit Ubuntu FC until 2018.The defender was yet to make his debut under Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson. But he never got the chance to play until his life was cut short.
