Composer and musician Gamelihle Mbuyane has dumped the African National Congress (ANC) and also demanded that the party stops playing his music at their events.
RESIGNING FROM THE RULING PARTY
Mbuyane is famously known for composing struggle songs like Asinavalo, Asiwafuni Amagwala and Unity Maqabane (Ramaphosa) which are usually played at ANC events. In his resignation letter, Mbuyane did not mention the reasons behind his decision. "It gives me pleasure to have been the member of the ANC and even greater pride to have adequately supported with voice ,however, I ,Gamelihle Mbuyane, hereby notify you that I am resigning as a member of the ANC with immediate effect. Reasons will be forwarded at a later stage if need be," his letter read.
DEMANDING THAT ANC STOPS PLAYING HIS SONGS
He also appealed to the party to discontinue all the songs with his voice and written by him during campaigns with immediate effect. "After careful evaluation of the Copyright Act of 1978, it governs the making of photocopies or other reproduction of copyrighted material. Under the provisions of the Act libraries and Archive depots are authorised to supply photocopies or other productions. One of these provisions is that the photocopy or production is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, personal or private. Failure to do so will be the infringement of the Copyright Act and it will be within my constitutional rights to take legal actions against such Act," his letter said, adding that "Kindly be informed that per copyright Act which by virtue I'm entitled of all the revolutionary songs which are sang by my voice. I thereby notify you to cease using the struggle songs with my voice for campaigns and furthermore the other three songs which were composed and sang by here as follows, Asinamali, Asinavalo and Unity Comrade," he said. The ANC has not responded to Mbuyane's resignation.
