A Colombian drug cartel is demanding R50m ransom for the safe return of an alleged Cape Town gang boss who was kidnapped last week. According to an internal police report shared with Cape Argus, it is believed that the missing man, Peter Jaggers (43) was kidnapped at the Emperors Palace Hotel in Kempton Park, not far from OR Tambo International, where he landed from Cape Town.

THREATNING VOICENOTE

In a voice note that has been circulating on social media, the kidnappers demanded a R50m ransom. It's alleged that the cartel also sent a photo of Jaggers in captivity to his family. "Hey, we no play, we no play, your husband is on his way to South America, you guys have 24 hours to return the stuff, or we will come after your families, you know," the man on the other side said, speaking in a South American accent. "We are not playing. Colombia, Columbia," he then speaks in a foreign language. We cartel we do not forgive you, hey don't forget, time is running, you got 24 hours to give me my stuff back," the man in the voicenote said.

HE NEVER RETURNED HOME

In her statement, Jaggers's wife, Shawaal Jaggers, mentioned that her husband left the house on June 30 and that on July 3, he travelled to Cape Town International Airport at 5pm. Police spokesperson Joseph Swaartbooi said the case was registered at the Bishop Lavis police station on Friday, and the wife made an affidavit to a policeman detailing the last time she saw her husband. "He was apparently picked up by the foreigners from Bulgaria or Serbia. He never returned home," his wife said in the affidavit.
