She dropped out of the Miss South Africa pageant following social media bullying and questioning of the legitimacy of her South African citizenship. Model Chidimma "Chichi' Adetshina then went and entered Miss Universe Nigeria, representing Taraba State, after being invited by Silverbird Group, which she has since won.
MISS UNIVERSE NIGERIA
Chichi (23) who was allegedly born and raised in South Africa to a Mozambican mother and a Nigerian father went up against contestants from Nigeria and came out tops. "There were times when I did not even want to go outside. I don't think anyone should be treated the way I was treated,' she said during the questioning at the pageant. "I faced a lot of backlash. It was not an easy experience.'
GOAL MET
Investigation on her family's citizenship is still ongoing, however, it has come to light that her mother might have stolen the identity of another to gain citizenship in 1995. Chichi said her goal was to win Miss Universe Nigeria. "My goal is obviously to win the crown of Miss Universe Nigeria and I do have an impact that I want to share with everybody. As a woman who has obviously faced adversity, I want to use my story to bring people together," she said. Social media followers have questioned what will happen upon her return to South Africa. Last month, the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs reported to Parliament that the department's three officials were allegedly involved Chichi's fraudulent birth registration in their Johannesburg office. The committee also revealed that one of the officials has since passed away and the remaining two are being investigated.
