Life is tough for everyone and it doesn't matter if you are a star or not. This year has seen a number of stars asking for help from their fans, as they found themselves in tough situations.
FORMER GENERATIONS STAR SOUGHT HELP
Back in the day, Roderick Jaftha popularly known as Glen Majozi from Generations was a hit, but he failed to secure more gigs after being on the SABC 1 soapie for over a decade. Things got so bad that he was unable to makes ends meet and to provide for his children. He complained about not having food and having to pay for his accommodation of R2 500. In an interview with ZiMoja, he said he couldn't afford to buy food for his kids. "I'm struggling to pay rent. I have small kids and two of them are still in school," he said at the time. He even sent the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton Mackenzie an email, in which he pleaded with him for help to get his life back on track. After an outcry that he couldn't afford to support his family, Jafta landed a role in a new upcoming Afrikaans series on Showmax. He confirmed that the role was created for him after ZiMoja published an article about his dire situation.
FORMER BACKSTAGE ACTOR PLEADS WITH FANS FOR DONATIONS
Actor Carlos Radebe made a name for himself when starred in etv's Backstage as Duke and as Sello Mvunyane on Generations. However, since then gigs dried up, leaving him without work for three years. "Letting you know as my fans that I am still holding on to my game with dogged determination, waiting for the dam to burst and for work to start rolling my way before the year is over," a part of his Facebook post read. He added that he had been without work for three years. After producer Mandla N caught wind of Carlos's predicament, he offered him a role on one of his productions. Speaking to ZiMoja then, Mandla said he was able to help, because it could be him tomorrow. " I'm just so happy that I could land a helping hand. It could happen to anyone and I trust that ahould it happen to me, someone would also land a helping hand," he said.
FORMER ISIBAYA ACTRESS ASKS FOR HELP
Since Multichoice canned Mzansi Magic's Isibaya, actress Gcina Mkhize has been without work. In a social media post, the actress pleaded with fans to help her out. She said: "Mzansi, I plead with you, I need your help. My house is open and anyone can just come in and do whatever they want. In addition, my electriciry supply has been cut off. After the actress' social media post went viral, she received an outpouring of support from fans. She said:"My kids and I are eternally grateful, we are deeply himbled by your support".
GOSPEL STAR PLEADS FOR DONATIONS TO HELP SETTLE MEDICAL BILLS
The late gospel heavyweight, Solly Moholo was in a tight spot after he fell ill while promoting his album in Botswane, he was repatriated back to Mzansi and admitted to a private hospital in an intensive care unit (ICU). His management said in a statement that they needed donations to help cover his medical bills, which amounted to R700 000. "Your help is needed to keep the legend alive during this trying time for his friends, family, and team. I would be grateful for any amount of money," his management said in a statement. They were mot able to raise the money, as they only manged to raise fraction of the money needed to settle his medical bill. They only managed to raise R100 000 of the R700 000. JJ Tabane said: "We have failed Solly Moholo as a nation, I think it's a shame".
