BenniMcCarthy on his bond with late rapper AKA

Benni McCarthy speaks on his friendship with late rapper, AKA

Veteran footballer and coach Benedict "Benni' McCarthy has hung up his boots and is now training rising stars. At the height of his football career, Benny could dabble in music, which he thinks might never again see the light of day.

BACK TO MUSIC

The footballer featured in the song Shibobo by early 2000's Kwaito group TKZee, and he then later in 2012, joined forces with producer Dome and the hip-hop group Team Tswara on the song, Viva Africa. Since then he has not made music but has made appearances on music videos including AKA's song Jealousy. AKA considered Benni the greatest footballer in the country and made this known. Benny has since reflected on his special bong with deceased rapper Kiernan "AKA' Forbes whom he says was the only person capable of getting him to make music again.

A SPECIAL BOND

AKA and friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane were shot and killed outside of a Durban restaurant two years ago. Benny said the rapper's death was devastating as he shared a special bond with him. "I was completely devastated when I found out what happened,' he said. "I don't think there's a person in the music industry who can convince me [to get back into music]. If I were to do anything, it would have been with Kiernan. He was someone special. We had a bond so we would always be in contact.'
