The police in Ekurhuleni have arrested five men, aged between 23 and 54 years, for their alleged involvement in generating fake documentation including payslips and matric certificates.
A TIP OFF
City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini explained that the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department's Community Liaison Unit Task Team in conjunction with Gauteng Special Law Enforcement Unit acted on a tip off involving four foreign nationals and a South African alleged to be making fake documentation. "The team apprehended two Malawians, two Nigerians and a South African. The documents also included police clearance certificates, driver's licenses, matric certificates, firearm competency certificates, face value documentation and medical certificates,"said Dlamini.
BRIBING COPS
Dlamini said when law enforcement arrived at their given location to arrest the suspects, one of them allegedly attempted to bribe police with R1 000 to set them free but his attempt failed.
"The suspects are detained at Kempton Park police station and equipment including a photocopy machine, fax and other equipment suspected to have been used in the production of the fake documentation were seized."
He said the suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court soon on charges including fraud and bribery.
