A 27-year-old suspect will be appearing in the Bela-Bela Magistrates Court in Limpopo today following his arrest by the Hawks yesterday. The suspect handed himself over to the police following the arrest of two other suspects on Tuesday. The three are accused of stealing $580 dollars (R10 million) of cash that was stashed in a couch at President Cyril Ramaphosa's farm in Bela Bela, Limpopo in February 2020.
The other two accused, Imanuwela David (39) and Frolina Joseph (30) will also be in court this morning. They made their first court appearance on Tuesday following their arrests on Monday in Rustenburg. They are facing charges of housebreaking with intent to steal, theft and money laundering. Joseph was a domestic worker at the farm and she is allegedly the mastermind behind the theft. Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale confirmed that the suspect is alleged to have had a hand in the housebreaking and theft at the Phala Phala farm.
Limpopo NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said more arrests are expected with regards to the Phala Phala matter. "Depending on the investigations, there is a possibility that we can have four of five suspects in total," Malabi-Dhangi said. The first two suspects are expected to make their formal bail application this morning.
