Another mass shooting in the Eastern Cape claimed the lives of six people in Godini village outside Qumbu last night. It is believed that the six who were killed were members of the community policing forum in the village.
VICTIMS ARE CPF MEMBERS
Provincial police spokesperson Majola Nkohli said ten people were shot and only four survived the shooting with injuries. The wounded victims were taken to the hospital. "Six victims were fatally shot, while four were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The incident occurred last night, where unknown suspects pounced and fired at the victims. The motive for the shooting is unclear," Nkhohli said. He added that the victims are believed to be members of a community policing forum in Godini village.
EASTERN CAPE UNDER FIRE
This incident follows another mass murder that took place in Lusikisiki and left 18 people dead last week a day before a traditional ceremony. During the memorial service yesterday, Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu confirmed the arrest of three suspects who are making their first appearance in court today. "When we left here, we said one person was taken in for questioning as a person of interest following the team's investigation. The police released him after intensive interrogation. The probe led to three people being arrested, and suspects are expected to appear in court today. A manhunt is ongoing for a fourth person of interest; we know his name and surname," said Mchunu.
