Alleged parliament arsonist Zandile Mafe told the court that he is ready for a life sentence. He appeared at the Western Cape High Court today and admitted that he was the one who burnt parliament.
He was in court for his pre-trial appearance after undergoing a second psychiatric assessment. Shortly after he walked into court, Mafe had an outburst and said: "I burnt it 'Parliament' intentionally, I want a life sentence of 25 years from now, 2023, until after 2043. I'm not afraid of a life sentence. "DA must not be in the parliament. DA are killers, DA are murderers, they kill black people."I did burn Parliament," Mafe also made remarks that Parliament should be moved to Bloemfontein and that white people should bring back the land. "You must take it into Bloemfontein, that Parliament, or Pretoria. It must move. It must be relocated. I burnt it intentionally. Me, Christmas Zandile Mafe. I'm going to burn it more if it doesn't move to Bloemfontein or Pretoria. "I don't want whites in this land. They must bring back land to black people. Whites are murderers. Whites are killers," he said.

Judge Nathan Erasmus let Mafe be and told the court that he did not want to interrupt him because he understands his medical condition. "I know Mr Mafe's medical condition, and I don't want to exacerbate it," he said. Mafe faces charges of housebreaking with intent to commit terrorism and arson, and theft. He has been in custody since January 02, 2022. Mafe's first psychiatric assessment found that he had schizophrenia however this finding was declared unlawful. This hearing was meant to reveal the outcome of a second evaluation.
