The matter against Bafana Mahungela, the 21-year-old student accused of the murder of Sandton teacher Kirsten Kluyts has been postponed to July. He appeared briefly at the Alexander Magistrates Court in the north of Johannesburg yesterday.
MATTER DRAGGING
The matter postponed for further police investigation. After the brief court proceedings Mahungela's legal representative expressed frustration over another postponement. "The constitution of this country particularly section 353D guarantees the right to speedily trial without any delay. Now my client has been in custody for approximately 7 months, and they requested this in January, you will recall that I wasn't granted the opportunity to address the court at the time. Today we came with the hope that they have finalised their investigations because we've been waiting. They came with a letter from the director of public prosecutions saying they need three months because there's still substantial investigations which have to be done, meaning initially no investigations were done at all, " he said.
