Former Cosas Secretary General and ANCYL Gauteng Regional Chairperson Nkhobo Khomongoe is accused of failing to take responsibility of his eight month-old son.
Khomongoe, who hails from Protea Glen North in Soweto, is accused of failing to support his son whom he fathered with his ex-girlfriend, Refilwe Motaung.
Speaking to ZiMoja about the pain and suffering of having to raise a child alone, with money she gets from a grant, Motaung said it pains her that Khomongoe is not leading by example.
"When I first met him, he was a loving and caring person and these traits made me fall in love with him from the beginning." she said, adding that they met when he was running a campaign for the ANC in 2021 in her neighbourhood. Last year February they met again, hit it off and started dating. "In April I fell pregnant and moved in with him in Protea," Motaung says.
Refilwe Motaung wants Nkhobo Khomongoe to step up and a good dad to their eight-month-old baby
Motaung said that cracks started showing in July last year. "At the time I was already pregnant but he was able to beat me up. Even when we had a small argument, he would just klap me. This went on until I gave birth in January this year," Motaung alleges.
Motaung said that after giving birth, Khomongoe's stepmother came and chased her out of the house they were sharing.
"I suffered a lot in his hands. At some point, he used to go out and party, while I was pregnant, and come back with his girlfriends to have a party in front of me. They used to party all night and when I would tell him to invest money for our son, he would brush me off. I don't want anything from him except for him to take care of his child. On weekends he is used to posting expensive beverages while his son is starving. I am not working. He has the means to take care of his son but he's spending all his money on booze and his girlfriends," she fumed.
When ZiMoja contacted Khomongoe for comment, he denied neglecting his child and claimed that he has been unemployed for a long time.
"My child is my responsibility. I have never neglected my child. When I was employed, I did my best to buy the child essentials. Last time I bought them was in December where I bought clothes for the child and for her. The issue began when my mother asked her to go back home to give birth because as Africans, a woman must go back home to give birth if she is not married. Yes, I have just been voted as the chair but we are volunteering in those positions and I have just been employed in the Panya Panya projects where I am earning only R6000," he said.
Khomongoe promised to pay all damages to the Motaung's family so that he can have full custody of his son.
