The African National Congress (ANC) Women's League National Task Team (NTT) Convener Baleka Mbete says its 13th elective conference is 90% ready. She said this during the media briefing earlier today ahead of their conference at Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg. Mbete, who was monitoring the registration processes earlier, says when she spoke to her comrades at the registration point, she was left with no doubt that in terms of registration which has been the problem area in the past 24 hours, they are ready.

EXPERIENCING TECHNICAL GLITCHES

The ANC veteran said they have been experiencing technical glitches at the registration point. "That's where we have picked up problems since last night, registration has been giving us technical difficulties which many of you who have been following the ANC conferences know happens around this time," Mbete said. She added that it was only North West province that was left behind but the rest were on course. She said they were willing to go ahead with the conference if need be.

MORE THAN 3000 DELEGATES EXPECTED

NTT Head Organizer Nokuthula Nqaba said they expecting 3 100 delegates. "The number of delegates expected from all nine provinces it is 3 100 from where we are dotted we managed to reach +- 2000 delegates registered. There were a few registered from North West but not the entire delegation. Former ANCWL president, Bathabile Dlamini, will be vying for the top post going against Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities Sisisi Tolashe. The conference themed "Advancing Decisive Action Towards The Full Liberation and Emancipation of Women" is set to conclude on Sunday. The recent ANC youth league was unable to conclude on the set time and will have to wait for the second leg to finish its elective conference.

THE LEAGUE DISBANDED

The ANC national executive committee (NEC) disbanded the Women's League in April last year with Bathabile Dlamini at the helm from 2015 until her term of office expired in April 2022. The league's executive was then replaced with a national task team (NTT) led by Mbete. The conference this weekend will see new national leadership being elected after a number of postponements. The conference was postponed several times due to Covid-19 in 2020. It was initially scheduled to take place on 17 June but was again postponed after the NTT discovered that many branches were not ready.
