She was once one of the most-played singers and songwriters in the country. Zama Jobe made her comeback to the mainstream music industry in 2021 after a 13 years hiatus. She returned with a feature on Zulu Mkhathini's album with the closing song Ngiyabonga. She then followed with the release of her single Bubble of Love. The Ndawo Yami singer now also wants to impart her wisdom to the younger generation while continuing to do what she loves.
GIVING BACK
The mom and singer recently addressed about 12 eager students at Wits School of Arts about her musical journey, mistakes and lessons and gave her words of wisdom to the budding stars. "Do what you know and love and that is what will impress people. Don't think of doing what people will find people impressive. You need to be connected., she shared. "When you pick a genre, find something that is meaningful to you, that you love and speaks to your heart. Don't create something that people will love, create what you want. And in that way, even if it doesn't work out, I will be from your heart,' she told the student.
LESSONS
Her voice still sounds as angelic as it did when she entered released her first song 20 years ago. Before making a return, she hadn't released music since 2013. She first took time off from the limelight more than six years ago but stayed away for longer to deal with personal issues. She wanted to focus on herself but later realised that she might have stayed away for too long. Which is one of her biggest regrets. "It was a lesson that I learned,' she told the students. But music is a journey that comes with many lessons.'
