It is not easy at it seems but if you are up for the challenge, here are a few tips to start the year without that sip.According to the World Health Organization, Alcohol is a psychoactive substance with dependence-producing properties that has been widely used in many cultures for centuries. "The harmful use of alcohol causes a high burden of disease and has significant social and economic consequences. The harmful use of alcohol can also result in harm to other people, such as family members, friends, co-workers, and strangers.'

LOSING FOCUS

Psychological Registered Counsellor, S'lindile Ninela says being sober at the start of the year is perfect because, " it's a season where one would be expected to start afresh. It's a time to reflect on the past year and improve on behaviour, lifestyle and financially.' She says starting on an intoxicated note  means that mentally you are not channelled in putting the goals you hope for in place. "Whatever that you desire, you should set the tone at the beginning of the year. If you are intoxicated, remember what damage it does in your brain or in your behaviour and you are likely to lose focus.'
