Oshwin Andries succemed to stab wounds in hospital

South African U20 captain Oshwin Andries dies at the age of 19 after a stabbing incident in Cape Town. Andries's club Stellenbosch FC have confirmed the news. Western Cape police confirmed that Andries died after he was readmitted to hospital on Saturday night following a stabbing incident last week. 

 

PROMISING CAREER CUT SHORT

"It is with deep sadness that Stellenbosch F.C. has learned of the untimely passing of promising young defender, Oshwin Andries," reads a club statement.  "The club is not in a position to provide further information at this stage and asks that his family's privacy is respected in this difficult time of bereavement. His presence, both on the pitch and off it, will be sorely missed. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Stellenbosch F.C are with his family, friends and loved ones. A further statement will follow in due course."

 

Andries studied at Cloetesville High School before graduating from the SFC Academy to the Stellenbosch first team squad.

 

DEBUT

Andries made his debut against Baroka in December 2021. He last played for the club onJanuary 27 when he played the entirety of Stellenbosch's 3-2 victory over Cape Town City. He captained South Africa during the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and he was named Man of the Match in October's 5-2 win against Namibia. 

 

NO ARRESTS

Police spokesperson, Captain Nowonga Sukwana, says no arrests have yet been made. "He was treated for a stab wound and due to complications he was turned back to hospital. Circumstances around his stabbing are still under investigation," he said.
