Former Kaizer Chiefs player Jabu Mahlangu (Pule) is fuming with anger after former Bafana Bafana player Linda ‘Mercedez Benz’ Buthelezi called him a “legend wanna-be” and, like many others, does not deserve the legend title.
LEGENDS
Jabu said he has never claimed the legend status and feels insulted by Linda. “I have never labelled myself a legend," Jabu said. "I was reading the news and heard Linda saying I am not a Kaizer Chiefs legend. Firstly, I never wanted to be a legend or even a celebrity, and all that nonsense. I am shocked he would make such claims," the fuming Jabu said.
NO LEGEND
Jabu said he has made some mistakes in life but will not be insulted by another man. “I am Jabu Mahlangu, God’s child, like any other person,” he added. “He has no grounds to tell me that I wasted my career; who is he?” he asked. “Uyinkomo wena (You’re a cow). When they count Bafana Bafana legends, you are not there,” he said, directing the comment to Linda.
“No one remembers you. You’re a legend of red and yellow cards and being a dirty player on the field. You are known for hitting people on the field,” Jabu boldly said, adding that Linda is picking on him. “I had my issues like everyone else on earth and there’s nothing different about me. But I never claimed legend status.”
A DIRTY PLAYER
Jabu added that he never enjoyed watching a single game with Linda in it. “I can’t listen to another man talking about me and messing up my name,” Jabu added. He said Linda was older than him. He urged the former player to stop using his name unnecessarily. Jabu reiterates that he couldn’t stand watching Linda on the field because he was a dirty player. “You were a dirty player on the field! When you had the ball, you would pass it to opponents, and you were lucky to play with people like Doctor Khumalo, who helped you. You are not a legend of the game either,” the angry Jabu said.
