Woman loses millions in romance scam

These man used a fake name on his dating site profile

The Hawks in North West are looking for a man who allegedly scammed a 54-year-old woman of R2 million after they met on a dating site.

PERSON OF INTEREST

The Hawks spokesperson Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso said the woman handed the money over to the woman between May and August 2022 after she received her pension pay-out. "The man is a person of interest in a reported case where a victim was allegedly scammed of over R2 million rand of her pension pay-out between May and August 2022 by someone she met through Badoo online dating site,' Rikhotso said.

SWINDLER USED FAKE NAME

Rikhotso added that the man used a fake name in all his interactions with the woman. "The Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Mahikeng is seeking the assistance of the community to provide information on the whereabouts or details of the man in the picture,' Rikhotso added. Any person with information is requested to contact the investigating officer Lt Colonel Morné Grobler on 082 334 8667.
