"Why was my son killed"- Mother seeks answers after her son was killed by a mob

Thando Ngidi was beaten to death by a mob

He was dragged, beaten and left to die on the streets of Zondi in Soweto. Thando Ngidi (26) succumbed to his injuries at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital hours after being assaulted by a mob in his kasi on Saturday. Thando was accused of committing a crime but when his mother asked what her son did, no one had answers.

WHY WAS THANDO KILLED?

Thando's mother Sibongile Ngidi said she knows that kids get up to no good when their parents are not watching but she still believes her son didn't deserve to be killed like a dog on the streets. Ngidi said no one is willing to give her answers in the community. "Some of them even seem clueless about what could have transpired but they were there among my son's killers helping them," the mother said. She added that she will make sure that his death was not in vain. She further said that she does not want to see the culprits on the street. "What happened to my son has left me in so much pain, I found him with fatal wounds and the community is not even giving me answers about what my son did to deserve this. I feel so empty inside, part of me died with him, I am left so helpless, the pain is unbearable. I need answers to get closure," said the deceased's mother.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that three suspects believed to be instigators of the mob justice were arrested. "The suspects were arrested shortly after the incident and made their first appearance at the Protea Magistrate Court on Monday," SAPS Provincial Commissioner Elias Mawela said mob killings were an act of vigilantism. In the recent quarterly crime statistics, Mawela said 102 people were killed within three months from what was labelled as mob justice.
